The rise and fall of bonnaROME and the ebb and flow of yes and ?know

What separates rock stars and rock fans? Is it a real barrier? Surely one can be both, or neither. So is it an illusion? What brings them together? How much is the same from the stagefront to back stage? Why does one pay money to the other and, since they do, how much is different in the [...]

Bring home all the weirdos!

A last look back at Bonnaroo’s freshest faces. Queue up The Doors’ People are Strange.

One proud Poppa, surely Bonnaroo’s father of the year

What? You mean we can’t eat it sober?

Didn’t believe me? I guess EVERYBODY is a weirdo.

Sunday Bonnaroo highlights

Among packing and writing and interviewing on Sunday, we still managed to catch chunks of a few more bands before heading home. Again, time and schedule conflicts limited stuff, especially early. Apologies to fans of Brett Dennen or Erykah Badu. Nonetheless, here’s a quick rundown Bonnaroo’s last day.

More weirdos!

Will wrap up later tonight with more photos and words on Bonnaroo 2009.

At a place like Bonnaroo, she is one of the more normal ones.

The neon warriors guard their rings and protect Bonnaroo from dull colors.

Yarr! I wonder which one was there to see Andrew Bird.

One of Bonnaroo’s finest, keeping the streets safe from freaks.

Weirdos!!!!

Some come for the music. Others stick around for the partying. But the next best reason to go to Bonnaroo is for the freaks.

Captain America now does porn.

I wonder if the face is uglier than the mask …

Saturday Bonnaroo highlights

The best place to make friends at Bonnaroo, aside from your campground, is in the long lines. And there are lines for everything. Wanna go from the campground to the stages? There’s a line. Wanna drinka, drinka couple beers? Get in line. Then you gotta pee? Back of the line, bub.
So what to talk about when [...]

Bonnarooski Fest?

Typical Bonnaroo chatter or no? Dude, is that The Dude? Woah man, it is.
Louisville-based Lebowski Fest has landed at Bonnaroo.
Honoring everyone’s favorite movie about bowling and violence, the Louisvillians who created the festival drove the Dudemobile out of the bluegrass for the first time in more than three decades.
The cinema tent here on the farm [...]

Friday Bonnaroo highlights

The beasts of Bonnaroo never let you sleep. The music fades; you lay down in your tent and, only moments later, the sun slaps you in the face. Wash, rinse, repeat. Though Saturday brings another wave of great music to feed the fire, it’s still a good thing to look back on Friday’s fun.

Stop collecting animals!

The collective buzz among the animals at Bonnaroo this morning was for Animal Collective. By the time the set was over the buzz had turned burr. It doesn’t appear their spacy-metered songs in tranced-out renditions played to the sun-drenched crowd.
Talented band, sure. Many fans were shocked to see them have such an early set (mid-afternoon), but there was [...]

Catching up with Ben Sollee and bumping into a couple other Bonnaroo acts

Kentucky-based singer-songwriter Ben Sollee sat down with us for a moment to discuss his appearances at Bonnaroo and say thank you to his fans in Louisville.
The innovative cellist began a tour of small venues before arriving in Manchester, going from city to city on bicycle. The trip covered 346 miles and included an added weight of [...]
