So I heard your commute got a bit longer? Instead of the normal 45-minute commute you have to take to your place of work, now it will be about two hours. Unless you want to hear a traffic report that repeatedly tells you that you are screwed, then you are going to need more audio to get you through these troubling times. I guess you could catch up on video while “driving”, as in watching Arrested Development for the 100th time, but some officers of the law probably wouldn’t approve. So that’s a no.
As for audio, I threw together a tongue-in-cheek playlist to make those endless hours pass by a bit faster. Trying to avoid any tracks on The Mothman Prophecies soundtrack for obvious reasons. Don’t like these picks? Well, then that’s on you. But there are also fine podcasts out there such as “Comedy Bang Bang,” “This American Life,” “Sklarbro Country,” ‘WTF with Marc Maron,” “Doug Loves Movies,” and many more. Getting a few laughs from comedy podcasts will pick you up and turn you around from that road rage, too. So you have options.
#LouBridge #LOLBridge 2011 playlist:
1.) “Autobahn” – Kraftwerk
Let’s start it up here with a 22 minute song. You have the time. Drive drive drive, fun fun fun.
2.) “Repetition” – TV on the Radio
Stop. Go. Stop. Go. Repeat.
3.) “Middle of the Road” – The Pretenders
That’s where you’re going to be for a while.
4.) “London Traffic” – The Jam
Oh, just replace London with Louisville. The Jam should be on every playlist ever.
5.) “Drive” – The Cars
Too obvious? Sure. But I’m Ric Oca-sick of driving by now.
6.) “Downtown Lament” – Nerves Junior
You’ll come to lament downtown, too, in this traffic.
7.) “Sour Times” – Portishead
Oh, these sour times. Nobody in this carpool loves me, it’s true.
8.) “From Point A to Point B” – Modest Mouse
From A to B is around 10 miles … in only 2 hours!
9.) “Side of the Road” – Beck
Just don’t end up there. Go for the middle of the road. Hey! That’s a Pretenders song!
10.) “Traffic Jams” – Second Story Man
Louisville representation for our traffic woes.
* not yet Spotifiable *
11.) “Bridge Over Troubled Water” – Simon & Garfunkle
Obviously, but more like a troubled bridge over dirty water.
12.) “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” – The Smiths
I am not able to create a playlist without The Smiths, and this bridge traffic makes me miserable now.
13.) “Halfway to Crazy” – The Jesus and Mary Chain
After only one week I’m about all way too crazy.
14.) “You Wanna Freak Out” – My Morning Jacket
Yeah, you wanna.
15.) “We Are Having a Hootenanny” – The Magnetic Fields
We are, aren’t we? Play this after you freak out. Even if you didn’t wanna.
16.) “I Don’t Know” – Jeff Bridges
Even Jeff BRIDGES don’t know when the bridge will be open again.
That’s just about 2 hours to get you through the extra long commute.
