SXSW / 3.15

Sixth Street might be the epicenter of SXSW, but several day parties and night-time shows in the outlying streets and alleyways are goldmines for thirsty ears. Scoot Inn hosted a two-stage event sponsored by Brooklyn-based booking agency Panache and rum manufacturer Sailor Jerry. Seattle trio Grave Babies, who was among the dozen bands who performed Tuesday night, unleashed a set of reverb-soaked vocals, indiscriminate distorted guitars, micro-synth and punk-fueled drums that made for a noisy update of bands like The Jesus & Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine. —MH
