My single favorite rock band in Louisville broke up Monday. Vampire Squid, the uncategorizeable band, familiar to regulars of the Rud, Skull Alley and which up to now was the permanent headliner of Underground Sounds’ annual St. Alfonzo’s Pancake Breakfast block party (full disclosure: I book that), had a band meeting last night where it was agreed upon that the members’ interests and attentions were drifting and would be best to part as friends.
Their frequent shows were one of the great nights out one could count on in Louisville, and their absence on the live scene will be felt. For those in mourning, seek out the members of the band as they only recently (and finally!) began selling their excellent long player, “Theatre of the Empty Eye,” in the last few weeks. Be on the right side of history.
No word on the members’ next moves, but we will be watching. —Damien McPherson

Thanks Damien for treating us well, I am going to miss the band too.
Hey, I was pretty new to the band when we broke up, but thanks for the kind words! I will miss it!
