The Flaming Lips to headline Forecastle Fest 2010

Widespread Panic returns, Drive-By Truckers and Spoon also among headliners for the festival, held July 9-11 on Great Lawn. Also, Forecastle will be the only date in the region for a reunion by Cap’n Jazz. At least 60 performers including additional headliners are still to be announced.

“I don’t know anyone who started with as little as we did,” founder J.K. McKnight said in a news conference this morning on the Great Lawn. McKnight’s first Forecastle took place on July 20, 2002 in Tyler Park with a budget of $300. McKnight said he had the layout for the Waterfront version sitting on his desk for three years “up until three weeks ago, when I started on the real one.”

Three-day passes for $150 and day passes for $60 are on sale now at Ticketmaster or charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000. Tickets are also available at ear X-tacy, Shake-It (Cincinnati), CD Central (Lexington), Indy CD & Vinyl (Indianapolis) and Grimey’s (Nashville). VIP packages are also available. —Mat Herron
