“The Other Side of Immigration”

The current debate over immigration has focused solely on how Mexican immigrants affect the U. S. economy when they come searching for work.

Louisville native and University of Texas-Austin doctoral student Roy Germano’s documentary “The Other Side of Immigration” turns that beam around, dissecting and explaining what this mass exodus has done to villages and towns in rural Mexico through more than 700 interviews of farmers, government officials and laborers Germano conducted while working on his doctoral thesis. “The Other Side of Immigration” was screened at the first annual Flyover Film Festival in Louisville in June, and Germano is taking his film to other universities this fall.

The Other Side of Immigration shows at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at Floyd Theatre at the Student Activities Center on the University of Louisville Belknap Campus. The screening is free and open to the public. Free and open to the public. A Q&A with Germano immediately follows the screening.
