9.5.09: Cinderblock/Evergreen Reunion

If 17 years had passed, no one hardly noticed at Uncle Pleasant’s Sept. 5, as a reformed Cinderblock/Evergreen tore through their classics to commemorate the release of a CD compendium, Wholeness of the Soul, on Noise Pollution. The lineup included original singer Dave Pollard and bassist Troy Cox with Evergreen devotees guitarist Greg Livingston replacing Tim Ruth and drummer Sean Roberts in for Matt Tucker. Ruth was arrested earlier this year on drug charges, and Tucker declined to participate.

That said, the packed Preston Street venue pulsed and jammed with palpable satisfaction as Pollard barked the opening lines of “1980,” the lead-off track to Wholeness and the abnd’s long out-of-print cassette Go Cart Ride, and sounded refreshingly robotic on the verses of “Precious,” while Livingston, Roberts and Cox thrashed away with precision. The five-hour rehearsals paid off. The Glasspack turned out a cover of “Going Home” by Kinghorse with the ’Horse’s guitarist Mark Abromavage. Now there’s a Facebook group clamoring for a reunion.

Sean? Mike? Kevin? Mark? Any interest? —MH

Not sure who recieves these messages but I would LOVE to get back with some of the old crew.

How can I get in touch with Tim and Matt etc??? We were great friends and I still consider them to be my best friends to this very day! The good old days mountain biking at the brickyard or when Tim rode all the way home from the river at night, with one crank missing! lmao. Walking across the bridges at night with Britt and Jason Thompson, Mike Branigan, etc. Those were good times. Oh, and my Robert Palmer look when you played at the Machine. I’d love to get back in touch!! Wheres Jennifer Hagan??
    Love,
