LEO Weekly learned today that Tim Krekel is out of intensive care at University Hospital and recovering from surgery to remove a tumor from his abdomen. The following is from Krekel’s colleague Al Moreschi:
“Tim was allowed out of bed for the first time since his operation to remove the cancer in his abdomen. He really enjoyed being able to walk around the room a bit while they prepared everything to be moved to a regular hospital room.
The family asks that, for now, people be discouraged from visiting or calling the room. Tim will need all of his energy for a fast recuperation. They also would appreciate it if people did not send flowers or food to the hospital. If you would like to send a card or letter, that would be wonderful and those may be sent to:

A lot of people have been asking how they can help and should they organize fundraisers. Tim Krekel appreciates your concern and wants everyone to know that his current financial situation is good. Friends have been playing his regular shows and passing the hat for a little extra so that his income has stayed constant. There may come a time in the near future, once the cost of the hospital and treatments start rolling in, that he will need significantly more help. If that happens, there are already people ready to organize those shows so that they keep focused and the optimum benefit for Tim Krekel is achieved.”
